Automate electronic invoicing with n8n and webhooks

The scenario

An ecommerce business or an agency running several stores wants to generate electronic invoices (SdI or PEPPOL) inside an automation workflow it already relies on, without calling the REST API by hand, and wants every generated document to also land automatically in a no-code tool (Zapier, Make) or a CRM, without building a custom connector.

How it fits together

The official n8n node exposes generation (SdI XML, PEPPOL UBL, KSeF FA(3) XML, ZUGFeRD), status verification, and VAT number validation right inside the workflow, authenticating with the POP license_key as a credential. It does not cover PDF: that domain stays on the direct REST API. For Zoho the node only offers syncing an already-generated document (Sync Document to Zoho, not generation) via the native POP connector, or the dedicated n8n-zoho package for a self-hosted path with Zoho OAuth configured directly in n8n.

In parallel, the Webhook integration (Basic plan or above) forwards every generated document — as JSON or XML — to an external endpoint: Zapier and Make receive the data already flattened, ready to map without manual parsing.

The two integrations are independent and are each turned on separately from the account panel: the n8n node generates/verifies, the webhook delivers. For a more specific case — forwarding to a dedicated n8n connector instead of a generic endpoint — see api/connectors.

Why it works

Teams already orchestrating orders, shipping, or CRM in n8n add electronic invoicing as one more node in the workflow they already run, instead of introducing a separate system. And teams that don’t use n8n for generation still get automatic distribution of whatever document they generate elsewhere, through the same webhook, to any tool that accepts JSON or XML.
