Activating PEPPOL sending from WordPress or Shopify
Goal
Activate sending electronic invoices via the PEPPOL network directly from your WordPress or Shopify store.
France uses a distinct corridor (gov-fr, not generic PEPPOL): see france-peppol.
Prerequisites
- On WordPress: no minimum plan, activation and sending are available on every plan (including Free), using credits. On Shopify, the Basic plan or higher is required instead.
- A complete address (street, city, postal code) for the legal entity — PEPPOL requires these fields to register the endpoint.
- For Germany: you must explicitly choose the “document corridor” (
zugferdorpeppol) — without this choice, activation won’t complete.
Steps
You can activate PEPPOL in three equivalent ways:
- Account panel — on
popapi.io, go to My Account > Integrations, open the PEPPOL tab and enable “Activate PEPPOL”. - From the plugin/app, with an existing account — on WordPress: the General tab, refresh the license information, then go to Integrations and click the PEPPOL card to activate it.
- Guided setup wizard on first access — if you’re setting up the account for the first time and your country uses the PEPPOL corridor, activation happens automatically when the wizard is completed.
Automatic sending
- WordPress — the Advanced > Automatic invoice sending tab: enable sending via WP-Cron in the background.
- Shopify — automatic sending on paid orders is available on paid plans; it’s disabled by default for private customers (PEPPOL is a B2B corridor).
Manual sending
Use the “Send Invoice” button in the invoices table to send a single document to the PEPPOL network.
Common errors
- “This field is required when PEPPOL is enabled.” — the legal entity’s address, city, or postal code is missing: complete them in the account panel before retrying.
- Activation blocked for Germany — for
DEaccounts you need to choose the document corridor (zugferdorpeppol) before activation succeeds. - Automatic sending doesn’t start for a private customer — expected: PEPPOL is designed for business recipients, automatic sending to private customers is disabled by design.
