Generating invoices without a POP account
Goal
Generate a fiscal document (invoice, credit note, or PDF) by calling the POP API without having created an account yet, to try the output format before deciding whether to connect a real account.
What you need
- No
license_key: just omit the field (or theX-API-Keyheader) from the request. - A valid
datapayload, same as for an authenticated call.
What it covers
- Available routes:
create-xml(SdI),create-ubl(PEPPOL),create-ksef-xml(KSeF),create-zugferd(ZUGFeRD),create-pdf. - Local generation only: no sending to an external channel (SdI, PEPPOL, KSeF, Zoho, Fatture in Cloud, Aruba, SdI via PEC). Sending a document requires a POP account with an active integration.
- Limit: 1000 generations per month per site, shared across all the routes above.
How the caller is identified
With no account there’s no user_id to use: the monthly limit is tracked by a combination of
site_url (if present in the payload) and the request’s IP address. Including site_url in the
payload keeps the count stable even if the IP changes (e.g. behind a proxy or CDN).
Verify
Call one of the routes above without license_key: if under the monthly limit, you get the
generated XML/PDF normally, same as with an authenticated account.
Common errors
pop_api_generation_rate_limit(429): the monthly anonymous generation limit was reached for this site/IP, connect a POP account to continue beyond 1000 generations.- Sending to a channel fails: expected, anonymous generation only covers local document output, not sending. An account with the desired integration active is required.
