Setting up virtual stamp duty on invoices
Goal
Automatically add the virtual stamp duty (marca da bollo — Italy’s €2 stamp duty) on invoices issued without VAT when the amount exceeds the legal threshold, and optionally charge it to the customer.
Prerequisites
- Store with billing country Italy or San Marino: the option is only visible in this case.
- Invoices issued without VAT applied (e.g. regime forfettario/minimi, or in general VAT natures that exclude the tax).
Steps
- Go to
POP → Electronic Invoice - Settings, Documents tab, Stamp duty section. - Enable “Add virtual stamp duty on invoices”. The stamp duty (€2) is automatically applied when the invoice/PDF is issued without VAT and the order amount exceeds €77.47.
- If you want the customer to pay it (instead of absorbing it yourself as the seller), also enable “Stamp duty charged to the customer”: in this case the amount is also added to the cart, charged to the customer.
Verify
Generate a test order without VAT with a total above €77.47: the invoice should show the stamp duty line item (€2). If you’ve enabled charging the customer, also verify that the amount appears in the cart before checkout.
Common errors
- You don’t see the stamp duty option among the settings — it’s only visible if the store’s country is Italy or San Marino: for other countries the option doesn’t appear.
- The stamp duty isn’t applied even though the option is enabled — check that the invoice is actually without VAT (or at zero VAT) and that the order amount exceeds €77.47: below this threshold, or with VAT applied, the stamp duty doesn’t trigger.
- The customer doesn’t see the charge in the cart — check that you’ve also enabled the specific “charged to the customer” option, not just the base one: they’re two separate checkboxes.
