Customizing the invoice PDF on Shopify
Goal
Customize the appearance of the invoice PDF generated by POP: footer text, logo, and (optionally) the name of the downloaded file.
Prerequisites
- A paid plan: PDF customization is not available on the Free plan.
- Access to Settings > PDF customization in the POP for Shopify app.
Steps
- Footer text — enter legal notes, bank details, or useful links to show at the bottom of the PDF.
- Invoice logo — upload an image to show at the top of the PDF:
- accepted formats: PNG, JPG, or SVG;
- for PNG/JPG: maximum 600px per side and maximum 500KB;
- after uploading, the logo URL appears in the “Logo URL” field (you can also remove it with Remove logo).
- Use invoice number for PDF filename (optional toggle) — if enabled, the download/email file name uses VAT number + invoice number; the internal storage key stays unchanged.
Good to know
- Document title language — the “Invoice”/“Credit note” title on the PDF automatically follows the customer’s Shopify locale (German, English, Spanish, French, French-Belgium, Italian, or Dutch), not the merchant’s country. If the customer’s locale isn’t one of those, the title falls back to English. This isn’t configurable — it’s automatic on every document.
Verify
- Generate a test document and check that the footer and logo appear in the PDF.
- If you enabled the filename toggle, download the PDF and verify that the name contains the VAT number and invoice number.
Common errors
- “Upload a PNG, JPG or SVG image.” — the uploaded file is not in one of the accepted formats.
- “Logo must be smaller than 500KB.” — compress the image before re-uploading it.
- “Logo must be at most {max}px on each side.” — resize the PNG/JPG within the indicated limit before uploading.
- I don’t see these options — PDF customization requires a paid plan.
