Sending the pro-forma invoice/receipt to the customer by email
Goal
Automatically attach the PDF (invoice or receipt, depending on the customer’s choice) to WooCommerce’s standard “order completed” email.
Prerequisites
- WooCommerce with the “order completed” email active.
Steps
- Go to
POP → Electronic Invoice - Settings, Documents tab, PDF Documents section. - Enable the Proforma invoice via email option (“Active the sending of the invoice/receipt in PDF format via e-mail upon completion of the order”).
- Save.
From this point on, the PDF is attached to WooCommerce’s order-completed email when the order reaches that status.
Verify
Complete a test order and check that the “order completed” email arrives with the PDF attached.
Common errors
- The PDF is no longer attached after enabling “Generate proforma in HTML” — this is expected behavior, not a bug: the HTML option (intended only as a fallback for when PDF generation has issues) shows the document in HTML format but doesn’t attach it to the email. If you need the PDF attachment, don’t enable this option together with “Proforma invoice via email”.
- The attachment is missing only for some orders — check that the order actually reached “Completed” status and that it isn’t a zero-amount order (if you’ve enabled the invoicing block for zero-amount orders).
- You also want a separate dedicated email with just the XML or just the PDF invoice — those are distinct WooCommerce emails, see order-completed-emails.
